9th Grade Assistant Principal

Frank Gaines

"It’s a great day to be a Flying L. This is my 21st year in Broward County Public Schools and my 11th year as an administrator. I am honored to serve you as the 12th grade assistant principal and I am committed to ensuring students maximize their opportunity for post-secondary success. Rigorous academic coursework combined with social, political, economic, and community networking provides a framework for students to achieve. Students, do not hesitate to seek my assistance in developing your plans to succeed. Join me to help our students become tomorrow’s leaders."

Mr. Gaines was born in Newark, NJ, raised on the New Jersey Shore, earned a BS in Finance from Florida A&M University, MS in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University, and is a PhD candidate in K-12 School Leadership at Florida Atlantic University. A brief stint as a financial analyst in New Jersey led to his relocation to South Florida to teach math at the middle and high school level for 10 years, and subsequently to his current appointment as an assistant principal at the middle and high school level where he is in his 11th year as an administrator. Mr. Gaines has 4 children who are all graduates of Broward County Schools, 3 who are college graduates, and one who is in his senior year of college.


12th Grade Assistant Principal

Marie Hautigan

"It is my pleasure to serve as the 11th grade assistant principal and to work with all of the wonderful students, teachers, staff members, and parents who comprise our diverse community.  I want every student to take advantage of all that Fort Lauderdale High has to offer and to work toward meaningful opportunities after high school.  My goal is to assist students in learning as much as possible, finding something they truly enjoy, and developing to their full potential." 

Ms. Hautigan has a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism from Southern Illinois University and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago.  She earned her certification in educational leadership from Florida Atlantic University.  Her first career was as a copywriter in the advertising business in Chicago.  After relocating to South Florida, she stayed home to raise her two children before becoming an English teacher.  She has been a teacher, Cambridge magnet coordinator; and assistant principal at Fort Lauderdale High.  She has two children; one is currently a Flying L and the other is an alumnus of Fort Lauderdale High.
